Frosting the garden
Monday, January 27, 2025
Unlike that unconscionable arctic assault we endured about this time last year, winter consistantly moving itself into the upper twenties ain’t all that bad. Nor the 25 F (almost -4 C) that descended on the garden last night. The daytime highs are still in the 40s (5+ C).
It’s been a pleasurably mild winter but these steady frosty, freezy nights over the last week are actually good for the garden. It’s a signal that the inhabitants shouldn’t break out of their winter dreams too soon. And the frost does paint the garden with a delicate sparkle.
I was out this morning to catch the filigrees of frost before the sun came to wipe them away. It’s magic that always amazes me, physics be damned.
