Bellevue Botanical Garden
Bellevue, Washington

Having outgrown it's space close by the side of the Visitor Center, work on a new fuchsia display area at the Bellevue Botanical Garden started in March, 2012. Designed by the Eastside Fuchsia Society and George Lasch, the grand re-opening was in June, 2012 and Bellevue now hosts one of the most extensive and well-organized fuchsia display gardens to be seen anywhere. This impressive collection of fuchsias is set against the shelter of a woodland, opposite the Perennial Border across the lawn, and features an adjoining path along its full length that makes the plants an easy study for both old and young alike. Almost one-hundred and fifty different cultivars and species are on view, with each being accompanied by a staked number. A handy guide correlating the numbers with names is available at the Visitor Center. When visiting Bellevue, don't neglect to stroll around the rest of the garden. There are lots and lots of botanical gems to be found on its fifty-three acres, and fuchsias are incorporated into other displays all over the garden as well. You'll find delightful surprises everywhere. Oh, and as of my visit in September 2012, maps in the garden and on the website hadn't quite caught up with the relocation. Can't find the fuchsias? Don't despair. They're now simply located on the opposite side of the Visitor Center from where the maps indicate.

A full slide show is coming soon.
