Lake Wilderness Arboretum
Maple Valley, Washington

The Lake Wilderness Arboretum was founded to preserve and display native Northwest ecosystems in an otherwise urban area, as well as showcase more traditional cultivated landscapes. The garden is young and still in development but it includes large forested areas and trails along with formal gardens. Located on the Arboretum's grounds are two extensive collections of fuchsias hardy in the region: A garden of cultivated fuchsias is enhanced by a special collection of similarly hardy fuchsia species established by the Western Fuchsia Species Society. If you happen to drop by, do check out the nice-looking accession of Fuchsia magellanica labeled TM 0207. That one was raised from seed selected from a promising parent plant growing in the Patagonian Lake of District of the Argentinian Andes. I also happen to know the collector quite well since he was me!

The full slide show is coming soon.
