Seattle's Chittenden Locks and Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden
Seattle, Washington

Carl S. English Jr. was hired by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1931 to transform the neglected site of the former construction area off the Chittenden Locks. This leading botanist and horticulturalist tended the English-style garden he created until his retirement in 1974 and it was eventually named in his honor. The fuchsia display area, donated by the Greater Seattle Fuchsia Society, is on the walkway between the garden entrance and the locks themselves. Of particular note here is the large specimen of ‘Lechlade Magician’ with its striking blue pollen.  Visiting and contact information.
