Montreal Botanical Garden

Montreal, Quebec, Canada
The Jardin botanique de Montréal (Montreal Botanical Garden) is one of my favorite public gardens. In the world. It covers one hundred and eighty-five acres and each of its specialty gardens could practically serve as a stand-alone botanical garden of its own. Of course, being Quebec, the summer season from May to September is the time to visit. When you do, plan to spend the day and don’t miss the Jardin sous bois tucked away past the splendid Chinese Garden and beyond the lilies ornamenting the banks of the curving stream.

The Woodland Garden is where a dozen kinds of fuchsias are planted out each year. Keep a sharp eye when you meander the main paths because they’re tucked in all over. You’ll also want to explore the side paths that sneak through the ferns and other woodland plants. But don’t forget to bring some light insect repellant. Like any woodland, you might encounter either a few mosquitos, or maybe, lots buzzing about back there depending on the month or the weather.
