What’s in flower at the Fuchsietum? Look at that! Fuchsia boliviana ‘Alba’ finally made it.
Well, almost anyway. There are buds and the race is now on against Jack Frost!
I planted ‘Alba’ out a couple of years ago and it gets 4-5 ft tall (120-150 cm) in a season.
Unfortunately it wants to burst its flower buds just as winter arrives in Portland. Almost December now and I still haven’t had a first frost yet so this is a first for ‘Alba’.
Parent is in the greenhouse but I’ll keep the fool-hardy one around outside for maybe cutting insurance. It does save space.
And novelty’s sake because I’m a gambling man with plants.
t’ll certainly be joined by a few other species at some point.
